About the Editor-in-Chief
Gever Esther Rita is a fast-rising female researcher in the field of agriculture in Nigeria. She set the tone for her career in research in agriculture when she published her undergraduate research in the Journal of Food Processing and Processing, a journal published by Wiley Online in collaboration with Hindawi, indexed in Scopus with a cite score of 3.0 and Thompson Reuters (Clarivate Analytics) with impact factor of 2.6 at the time. This was a bold statement of intellectual courage and commitment, considering that it was not a requirement for her graduation. From a solid beginning, Esther Rita went on to publish numerous articles in journals published by reputable publishers, including Elsevier, SAGE, Taylor and Francis, and Emerald, such as Women’s Studies International Forum (Elsevier), Aslib Journal of Information Management (Emerald), Journal of Agribusiness in Developing and Emerging Economies (Emerald), Journal of Asian and African Studies (SAGE), Interactive Learning Environments (Taylor and Francis), and International Journal of Social Economics (Emerald). Therefore, Esther Rita is familiar with the terrain of indexed journals as an author.
Beyond publishing, she has also been involved in the editorial activities of various journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science. For example, she has participated in the peer review of various journals as an anonymous reviewer. Consequently, she has reviewed for journals such as SAGE Open, Journal of Stored Products and Postharvest Research, Journal of Tropical Insect Science, Information Development (published by SAGE), and BMC Psychology (published by Springer Nature), among several others. Esther Rita has also reviewed for numerous local journals in the field of agriculture at Nigerian universities and beyond.
Esther Rita is a symbol of excellence. She graduated as the top student in the field of Crop Protection from the Department of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, with a CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) of 4.48 on a 5.0 scale. This means that she was only short by 0.02 from making a first class. During her secondary school days, she represented her school in an international essay competition in honour of Nigeria’s Nobel Prize for Literature winner, Professor Wole Soyinka. At the state level, she has also participated in essay writing, where she emerged as the first runner-up.
Esther Rita holds a First and Master’s Degrees in Crop Science. She has currently registered for her doctoral degree at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. She has attended many local and international conferences where she presented scholarly papers. She has been on an active internship with a Q1, Scopus-indexed journal (Ianna Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies) from 2019 to 2025, where she was responsible for the journal's editorial office. Acting in that capacity, she worked closely with the journal's Editor-in-Chief, the associate editors, as well as the anonymous reviewers, where she learnt the rudiments of journal management and editorial processes. As the Editor-in-Chief and Founder of Torkwase Journal of Agricultural Research, she will make use of her experience to ensure the growth of the journal.
